Photocopies of two letters, dated June & August 1885 from Samuel Ousten Lovell written from Stanley to 'my dear Clark' [?Andrew Inglis Clark] referring to 'Modern Thought': also to Lovell's letters published under the name of Kappa [? In Mercury] and the Unitarian Church; education and 'payment by results' and other letters in the Mercury.

Microfilm copies of letters to James Smith from Sir Edward Nicholas Coventry Braddon (1829-1904) (82 letters) and John Henry (1834-1912), politician and merchant (72 letters).

Copies of letters of James Bayly Watchorn (1921-1943) written to his parents in Hobart while he was on active service with the R.A.A.F. The letters are exceptionally well written and reflect his feelings about his life as a fighter pilot and the people he met and include descriptions of the countries where he was stationed - Rhodesia where he trained, U.K. and West Africa - although he discreetly avoided reference to the war or his flying duties.

Letters relating to the illness and death of John Grant dated between 12 Nov. 1825 and 31 Dec. 1825. Letters from A.B. Spark in Sydney to James and Caroline Grant - John Grant very ill, prospects grave, relative needed. John Grant. died Sunday 11 December and was interred on the Tuesday, John Grants.'s will; Caroline Grant to James Grant from Hobart - Spark's letter, business, case of umbrellas (1 Dec. 2 copies cross written- one addressed to James Grant c/o John McLeod, Campbell Town, the other c/o Archibald Thomson, Launceston), from Sydney: arrived too late, John died, returning to James and the "little fellow", Dr Hood and Mr Bethune would be shocked at news, customary in England to send gloves to all friends of deceased- white as John single,Mr Sparks and Mr Bethune ought to be presented with mourning rings.

Letters written by Elizabeth Lucy (Bessie) Wells to father, Martin Lidbetter, and mother 1884 - 1886. Bessie's letters to her parents were intended for all her family, as she says in her first letter on the voyage (6 May 1884) which was addressed to Father, Mother, Robert & Sophie, Tom & Lizzie, Willie, Harry & Mary. Her first letter was written from Greenhithe before sailing and describes their boarding, seen off by the Wells father, Prissie, Uncles James Wells, Henry & Louie and her two children, Mabel and Arthur. Her letters supplement the journal of the voyage and describe their lives on the voyage, in Hobart and later at the Don River. There are references to the children's schooling, their hopes for a Friends School and eventual arrival of Samuel Clemes and family and the start of the School and the attendance of Edith and Frank, although the expense was almost too much but Edith gained a scholarship. There are references to visits from other Friends and occasionally relatives, visits to Melbourne, etc. A letter of 13.12.1891 was written on Wells Store printed letter-head.

Letter from Vivien W. Rawlinson undated. Most of the letter concerns Dobbie's work on the appeal by the Van Diemen's land Company to the Privy Council. Rawlinson had nothing but praise for Dobbie's efforts, and suggested should the government's case fail, Dobbie ought to resign his post and commence private practice. The remainder of the letter deals with arranging to play golf, and dinner at Rawlinson's club the following Wednesday.
