Diaries, illustrated with sketches, written in duplicate copy books, using a lead point on thin copying paper with a blue "carbon" pad which printed both on the back of the copying paper to darken the faint impression made by the lead point as well as on to the slightly thicker copy paper pages which were perforated to tear out (the copy being darker and clearer writing than the "top"). In the last volume, however, the top flimsy pages were removed to send overseas (possibly now written with a pen) and the copy made with a blacker "carbon" was retained

Journal commences 18th June 1834 at the beginning of a voyage to New South Wales and on to the Bay of Islands New Zealand. Continues unbroken to September 1836. Resumes with Journey to the Waikato, Rotorua etc. January to April 1838, Visit to the Reinga &c. March to April 1839. Final entry (one page) April 25, 1871

Trooper Blackburn's diary kept between 27 March 1901 and June 1902 while a member of the 2nd Tasmanian Imperial Bushmen's Contingent at the Boer War. He noted the voyage, weather, work with the horses, marches, casualties, camps and the return voyage.

Collection consists of a typescript copy of an original diary of Peter Harrisson's voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1822.

This is a personal diary writen by Arthur E. Risby (1856-1915) son of Joseph Edward Risby and includes notes of the weather, Huon Regatta, sailing, arrival and departure of boats; also some notes from 1878 - the mill burnt down, 'Helen' and 'Esk' started for London.

1 handwritten diary (black exercise book), marked Private, 1910 - 1914, documenting her last week in London and voyage to Australia [sailed from Tilbury on September 15th and arrived in Adelaide on 21st October 1911]. At the Freemantle stopover, her father received a letter from Francis Mather and Mr Gower asking him to take over at the Friends' School for 7 months while Mr Gower was in England

1 handwritten diary (black exercise book), marked Private, 1910 - 1914 (amended to 1914 - 1916, which is incorrect) documenting her time in Hobart and voyage back to England [arrived at Tilbury in April 1914]

Diary of Dr. J.H. Patterson dated April 1901 to March 1902, written while on active service during the Boer War in South Africa, often in the form of a letter as it was sent to his mother whenever it was possible to post letters.
